The 341.00 GE dividend was already credited for woodstove, per my post of June 9th. So woodstove cash balance is only 110.00 at present - with another 110.00 due Oct 26th. Now if only I can find some stock selling for 2.20/share which will go up 100 times in following six weeks!! But we are restricted to five stocks overall, yes? So it must be one of the existing five in my portfolio.

Contest pick - 4th stock in portfolio - Imperial Oil (IMO). Buy 400 shares at June 9th close 45.40 Cdn/sh for 18160.00 Now hold 400 IMO, 9900 NGD, 5100 SLW all using TSX listing, and 1100 GE NYSE listed. Cash position: prior 17.00 + 341.00 GE dividend + 20,000 new funds - 18160 purchase of IMO = cash balance 2198.00 GE dividend was paid Apr 27/09 31c US/share. Rationale for Imperial Oil pick at this time is to get the contest stockpicking task out of the way. Maybe not best purchase price, but not terrible margin of safety either. Imperial is likely to see some selling pressure as changes from heavy-duty return of capital to shareholders via the stock buybacks, to heavy-duty investment in Kearl project. But Kearl project is likely to pay better than buybacks, if one is willing to be patient long term holder of IMO. See May 26/09 presentation on company website for slides and audio recording (2+ hours) with good company plans. Not at all sure when those plans will get reflected in the stock price - likely further in future than Dec/09 closing date for the contest. Still, my best LT idea so belongs in this contest which is longer term stockpicking.

You can short only one time and you need to cover before the market close...you will get the closing price. You can close your position one minute before the close... Big news are release after the close(very often) and to avoid too much volatility(GAp up or Gap down)I prefer to have that rule in place.

By joshpacific

I currently have a 6 month target of $4 for GE.

The two contests are different, probably attract different folks or at least different investing strategies. Each has merit in drawing more visitors to the QIS Capital website. And each will be fun and a learning experience for participants.

It doesnt appear there is any interest in your contest. Doren has a great set up with his contest on his site. You dont think its a little bit disrespectful running a competing contest when he has a more detailed open contest. Not to mention he is running a contest without giving anyone any advantages such as yours(bonus money to the last winner). I think everyone will say that they appreciate your hard work with the last contest. With that being said I think your contest participants should throw their support behind Doren and who knows maybe you could win.
