Wow - that takes me back to school. If memory serves, beta is a measure of risk, part of the Captial Asset Pricing Model (CAPM). A beta of 1 is the risk related to all available investments in a market (a fully diversified portfolio). A higher beta is riskier than average, and therefore may offer higher returns. Anyone else with a better explanation - feel free. Shesh
